Surfing and innovation: our imperative
Not quite a waterpark, not quite a skatepark, the surf park provides the sublime experience that is the sport of kings. Now experienced with several projects underway and carefully selected network partners, AWM can assist with all aspects of a surf park. The following phases are the steps to completion. All phases are fee based.
Conceptualization
The initial phase is an important fact-finding, dialogue-based process during which the project goals, the key components and the key business drivers supporting the venue are explored. Space requirements, operational models, revenue generators, and ancillary amenities are determined. Since SurfStream can be built to create any wave size and type for any footprint, it is only after fully understanding all these pieces that AWM can solidify the final system specification and present timeline and budget.
Architecture
During this phase AWM works with the client and architectural team to develop site architecture that is ultimately surf-centric, delivering on customer needs and providing an immersive experience for the rider.
The deliverables of this phase are 2D/3D parametric architectural viewing plans and schematic diagrams that assure the project will meet the desired goals established during conceptualization.
Design Development
The goal of this phase is for AWM, the architects, design builders, and the client to settle on the general direction of the venue and what it will look like in greater detail. Construction materials, features and amenities, and design details are worked into the project.
This phase is the synthesis of the research and planning that has taken place in the conceptualization and architect phases.
It is important for the designs to reflect the client brand. Alternatively, AWM can introduce the client to potential branded sponsors and/or partners that will provide value in creating an immersive surfing experience. Once the overall design has been approved, the design details can be applied throughout the venue.
Venue Construction
Upon completion of the first three phases, the venue is ready for construction. AWM and the architect work closely with the venue design builders. With all of the approvals in place, architects will provide information for final construction documents. AWM will supply detailed schematic drawings for the SurfStream vessel construction. The timeline for this phase can be anywhere from 6 months to 2 years with many factors influencing the duration. SurfStream onsite construction takes anywhere from 3-6 weeks.
Market
The Market phase is actually woven into all the phases culminating in the venue grand opening. Ideally, the designated venue marketing team will be consulting throughout with the architect, design build team and the client to make sure that the overall venue goals are conveyed consistently. From signage, to design elements, to web content, and finally the grand finale a consistent and cohesive approach will ensure success. Attention to the little details pays off big time.
