A host of talented surfers competed at the inaugural Hangloose SurfStream Open held on Feb. 18 at the Himlabadet facility in Sundsvall, Sweden. Gerry Schlegel of Germany, recent champion of the Surf & Style European Standing Wave Championship, took home gold in the men’s open division, beating Sundsvall locals William Åhlund and Sebastian Hansen, as well as pro surfer Todd Holland of Cocoa Beach, Florida, who was surfing for the first time in a standing wave machine. Lauren Holland and Odd Persson won the women’s and junior’s divisions, respectively, putting on a great show for onlookers.

We never dreamed that one of our wave machines would cruise down Pasadena’s famed Colorado Boulevard or that it would be surfed by dogs, but on the morning of January 2, 2012 the ‘Surf’s Up!’ float sponsored by Natural Balance Pet Foods, Inc. wowed onlookers as it debuted at the 123rd Tournament of Roses Parade. Built by Fiesta Floats and carrying over 6,600 gallons of water, the engineering marvel broke the Guinness World Record for the longest and heaviest parade float. What a way to ring in the new year! Over 2,000 guests celebrated the arrival of 2012 at the ‘Ola Movistar’ SurfStream venue at the Boulevard de Asia outdoor mall, south of Lima, Peru. The all-inclusive event featured surf exhibitions, music and dancing.
